I've gone through many trades (Variety, THR, Deadline, etc etc) and legit publications to see who they've narrowed down as the contenders for the 2020 Oscars, and will focus on the top six prizes - picture, director, and all four acting categories.

Also, lots of trades are predicting that all 10 slots could be filled for BP but I could swear some expert saying it was mathematically impossible. We'll see.

BEST PICTURE
Almost certainly locks:

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood
Parasite
1917
The Irishman
Marriage Story
Joker
Jojo Rabbit
Little Women

Possibilities: Ford v Ferrari, Uncut Gems, Knives Out

BEST DIRECTOR - four are unanimously locked and we got one wild card here that can go to a handful of people

Almost certainly locks:
Bong Joon Ho, Parasite
Sam Mendes, 1917
Martin Scorsese, The Irishman
Quentin Tarantino, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood

Fifth slot possibilities: Greta Gerwig, "Little Women"; Taika Waititi, “Jojo Rabbit”; Noah Baumbach, “Marriage Story”; Todd Phillips “Joker”; Pedro Almodóvar, "Pain and Glory"

BEST ACTOR two certain locks (Adam Driver, “Marriage Story” and Joaquin Phoenix, “Joker”); and apparently a whole lotta wildcards (yes including Leo apparently but I'm sure he'll get a nod).

Possibilities:
Leonardo DiCaprio, “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood”
Taron Egerton, “Rocket Man”
Jonathan Pryce, “The Two Popes”
Robert De Niro, “The Irishman”
Eddie Murphy, “Dolemite Is my Name”
Adam Sandler, “Uncut Gems”
Antonio Banderas, "Pain and Glory"
Christian Bale, “Ford v. Ferrari”

BEST ACTRESS
Almost certainly locked:

Scarlett Johansson, “Marriage Story”
Charlize Theron, “Bombshell”
Renee Zellweger, “Judy”

Possibilities:
Saoirse Ronan, “Little Women”
Lupita Nyong’o, “Us”
Awkwafina, “The Farewell”
Cynthia Erivo, “Harriet”

BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR - four locks and a wildcard spot

Almost certainly locked:
Tom Hanks, “A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood”
Al Pacino, “The Irishman”
Joe Pesci, “The Irishman”
Brad Pitt, “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood”

Possibilities:
Song Kang-ho, "Parasite"
Anthony Hopkins, “The Two Popes”
Jamie Foxx, “Just Mercy”
Willem Dafoe, “The Lighthouse”

BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS
- this is Laura Dern's to win anyway so meh. And yes, unfortunately, Scarlett's pretty much locked to get two nominations this year.

Almost certainly locked:
Laura Dern, “Marriage Story”
Scarlett Johansson, “Jojo Rabbit”
Jennifer Lopez, “Hustlers”
Margot Robbie, “Bombshell”

Possibilities:
Florence Pugh, "Little Women"
Zhao Shuzhen, “The Farewell”
Annette Bening, “The Report”
Nicole Kidman, “Bombshell”
Margot Robbie, “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood”
Kathy Bates, "Richard Jewell"

Welp, see you tomorrow morning at 8:18am EST for this hot mess to commence. I mean, nothing can be worse than last year, right? RIGHT????
