Alex Rodriguez and Jennifer Lopez are eyeing a possible bid on the New York Mets https://t.co/AgUwBigT2Mpic.twitter.com/608CMhWhwO

- The couple is worth about $700 million and have retained JP Morgan to raise capital to buy the Mets
- The current majority owners, the Wilpons — who allegedly made$300 million off of Bernie Madoff's ponzi scheme while he was running the team's finances before the last economic crisis — have said they don't have to sell but are nevertheless shopping the team around. There have been rumors for years that their brother-in-law Saul Katz wants out.
- Steve Cohen, inspiration for that guy on Billions, CEO of a hedge fund that was guilty of insider trading, and owner of a minor stake in the team, tried to buy the Mets and their TV network, SNY, $2.6 billion earlier this year, but it fell apart in February (jfc how was this only two and half months ago) reportedly because of the 5 year waiting period before Cohen would resume control.
- Whoever buys the Mets now would immediately get control of the team, and it's unclear what the price is at this point, but JLo and ARod would be refreshingly ethical owners.
